Why doesn't the scanner see my Sudoku?

The scanner finds a Sudoku by its outer border: the thick line around the whole puzzle. If it cannot follow that line all the way around, it keeps showing Find the grid, or an upload ends with Grid not found.

• Incomplete border: Part of the puzzle is outside the camera view or cut off in the image. Make sure the entire grid is visible, including the outer border.
• Missing or vague border: Some puzzles are printed without a thick outer line, or with a thin or faint one. The scanner cannot find these.
• Border hidden by light: Shadows or glare across the border, or a background that blends into it. Use even lighting and a plain background.
• Wrong puzzle type: The scanner looks for the shape of the puzzle page you are on. Select the matching puzzle from the menu first.
